HGL Construction is serving as prime contractor on this design-build horizontal/heavy-civil repair project at the Jack C. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Muskogee, OK. The purpose of this high-profile project was to provide temporary and permanent stabilization to the unstable hillside in close proximity to the hospital. Work consisted of installing a temporary rock buttress to support the existing wall through the design phase, then install approximately 200 linear feet of new micro pile retaining wall with decorative concrete facing, demolish temporary buttress as new retaining wall is installed, replace existing damaged storm drain with new storm drain routed around new retaining wall, route new domestic water line around new retaining wall and connect into existing water line, demolish and replace existing concrete paving above the retaining wall, install new pedestrian handrail and DOT guardrail at the edge of the retaining wall, and apply new pavement striping.
Overcame differing site conditions.
Worked within an operational and active VA hospital, immediately adjacent to the very active loading dock area of the hospital.
Hydro-excavated to identify and work around underground utilities.
Installed over 1,000-LF of tensioned anchors to support the new wall.
