VA Research Building 19

Quick Facts
LOCATION:
Oklahoma City Veterans Affairs, Oklahoma

CLIENT:
Department of Veterans Affairs

ARCHITECT:
Pinnacle Design Group, LL

HGL Construction served as the prime contractor for this design/build renovation of Research Building 19, a 20,000 square foot, three-story building. This building supports functions associated with the VA’s research and laboratory operations and includes administration, laboratory, clinic and hospital areas. The scope of work involved design development followed by three phases of renovation/repair activities. This outdated and fully occupied facility required hazardous materials abatement, building systems upgrades (plumbing, HVAC, electrical, utilities), interior finishes, facility space modifications and reallocation, and laboratory and related space modernization. Expansion and supplemental mechanical, electrical and plumbing work was required throughout the research laboratory building, as well as fire suppression modifications and controls integration.

HGL completed this project while the facility was fully occupied. Additionally, HGL complied with complex and strict Infection Control procedures, including transporting debris during low activity periods, covering debris carts during transportation, coordinating with housekeeping staff, maintaining negative air pressure within demolition and construction areas, monitoring air-pressure differentials, isolating supply and exhaust, providing supply air, sealing existing ductwork, sealing vertical and horizontal separation, flushing water lines and existing drain lines, and balancing HVAC systems after completion.

PROJECT FEATURES:

  • Completion of project within a fully occupied building

  • Maintenance of fully compliant operations and safe workplace strategies, including site access, infection control, building controls, water purification, route of egress, and ADA compliance

  • Zero safety incidents, impacts, or disruptions to facility staff, construction personnel, and operations
