Repair and Replace Hangar Door

LOCATION:

Tinker AFB, Oklahoma

CLIENT:

Tinker AFB

ARCHITECT:

Air Force Contracting

DESCRIPTION:

HGL Construction served as the prime contractor on this design-build task order to repair and replace the center hangar door on the west side of Building 3102 on Tinker AFB. This design-build project required architectural, civil/structural, and electrical disciplines. The scope of work included a new floor plan, existing hangar door demolition, elevator renovation, framing, new hangar door installation, and electrical configuration.

The technical approach included mobilization, site preparation and staging, environmental controls, and hazardous material abatement. HGL completed this project while the facility was fully occupied. Due to the occupancy, the project was phased. All personnel was trained on FOD (Foreign Object Debris) awareness and prevention.

Lead-based paint (LBP) was found on all structural steel, including the catwalk frame. Additionally, dust on horizontal surfaces in the shop was found to contain hazardous heavy metals. Wet wiping and HEPA vacuuming were required prior to disturbing other exposed horizontal surfaces, such as the office structure. The ceiling tiles, insulation, and contaminated cleaning materials were contained and properly disposed of at an approved location.

PROJECT FEATURES:

  • Completion of project within a fully occupied building

  • Hazardous working conditions
